Barwell Motorsport will enter the Silver Cup class with a revised driver line-up for the remaining two GT World Challenge Europe Endurance events, having previously contested the Gold Cup.
The UK-based team’s Black Bull Scotch Whisky/Amstutz Produkte-backed Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo will continue to feature full season driver Alex MacDowall alongside Spa 24 Hours driver Sam De Haan for both races. The pair will be joined by Patrick Kujala for Hockenheim and then Charlie Fagg for the season finale at Barcelona.
Kujala has driven with the team many times in previous years, most recently in 2020 where he was part of the GTWCE Endurance Championship-winning Silver Cup squad, and has previous experience of Hockenheim having raced there when he was in single seaters.
MacDowall was also part of that 2020 Silver Cup title winning line-up, and has previously contested an ADAC GT Masters round at Hockenheim in 2017. While De Haan returns to the Barwell Lamborghini to make his debut in the Silver Cup class, and this will be the first time he will have raced at the German venue.
2021 GT4 European Silver Cup Champion Charlie Fagg will step in for the season finale, due to Kujala having a prior race commitment in the USA. The 23-year-old has mainly been racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship in an Aston Martin during 2022 and experienced the Barwell Huracan during the Spa 24Hours Test, although Barcelona will be his race debut for the team.
The move to the Silver Cup class means that Sandy Mitchell will no longer be able to be part of the Barwell squad, as he is currently a Gold-rated factory Lamborghini Pro driver. Mitchell though will continue with the team in their British GT Championship title attack with Adam Balon.
The Barwell Lamborghini will carry the eye-catching livery debuted at the Spa 24 Hours at both Hockenheim and at Circuit-de-Catalunya at the end of September.
