Toyota Set To Launch GR020 Hypercar for 2023 Season

Paddock sources at Fuji were very clear that the potential switch for Toyota Gazoo Racing to a new car to replace the current GR010 (albeit around the current powertrain package) is well advanced and on-track for 2023, the manufacturer having been persuaded that the supply chain issues affecting the whole industry at present are under control for the new project.

The 2023 car is understood to be set to be dubbed the GR020 and is designed to address a number of evolutionary lessons learned from the first two season with the new car, in particular with regards to the aerodynamics of the car, the look of which is believed to be significantly different, in particular around the front end and ‘face’ of the car.

The GR010 HYBRID was initially intended to be accompanied by a parallel road car programme which was cancelled after a troubled development process. The GR010 though went on to become the first major OEM Hypercar programme in the new era of top class sportscar racing and has a pair of Le Mans wins, and currently the 2021 FIA WEC World Championship, on its racing cv.
