The 12th edition of the Gulf 12 Hours is set to feature the largest GT3 grid in the history of motorsport in the Middle East at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on 11 December as it forms the final round of the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge.
The provisional entry list, published today, includes 34 GT3 cars from the world’s leading manufacturers, almost double the previous GT3 record entry for this race (18 in 2018) with the GT3 entry alone already also breaking the overall entry record (33 also in 2018).
A final entry list, which will also contain additional Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) entrants and more GT3 cars currently wait-listed, will be published at the end of the month.
As the final round of the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge, the Gulf 12 Hours brings down the curtain on the season, following events at Bathurst, Spa-Francorchamps and Indianapolis, the latter set to take place next month.
The entry is a blend of Gulf 12 Hours regulars and the teams that more traditionally have contested the IGTC.
The most successful team in Gulf 12 Hours history, Kessel Racing, is back with four Ferrari 488 GT3 cars, part of an impressive total of 10 Ferraris on the provisional entry list.
Last year’s winner 2 Seas Motorsport, from Bahrain, will defend its crown with two Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo cars. The German marque will be represented by a total of nine cars as it seeks a third Gulf 12 Hours win.
Four cars apiece from Audi, McLaren and Porsche, and currently one BMW (though WRT are listed with two entries TBC and could well debut their rumoured switch to the BMW M4GT3 in Abu Dhabi), bring further variety.
