ELMS & Le Mans Cup Regulations For 2023

Fewer Auto invitations for Le Mans - Altered qualifying format

The Sporting regulations for the 2023 European Le Mans Series preview some key changes in event format that will also be seen in the FIA WEC for the coming season.

Tyre warming and/ or temperature retention equipment is now forbidden.

The pit lane entry will be closed when a Full Course Yellow (FCY) is announced. The pit entry will close as soon as the message “Prepare for FCY at XXhXxmXXsec” is posted on the timing monitors. The pit lane exit though will remain open.

Amendments To Automatic Invitations To Le Mans – ELMS and Le Mans Cup

As in 2022 in LMP2: 1st and 2nd placed competitors in the overall classifications will receive invitations thought the formula linking the number of entries to full-season entry numbers is removed;

The Championship-winning team in LMP2 Pro/Am will also receive an invitation;

As before, in LMP3 the 1st placed competitor in the overall classifications will receive an invitation;

In LMGTE only the Championship winning team will receive an invitation, a reduction from the formula linking the number of entries to full-season entry numbers;

DSC also understands that the GT3 Championship winning team from the Michelin Le Mans Cup will no longer be awarded an automatic invitation, a change from the position since the Championship’s inception.

ELMS Qualifying

All ELMS Qualifying sessions increased from 10 minutes to 15 minutes with a new separate qualifying session for LMP2 Pro/Am competitors.

Only bronze drivers will be allowed to participate in the LMP2 Pro/Am qualifying session.

LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am Tyres

The maximum number of tyre specifications that can be used by LMP2 and LMP2 Pro/Am competitors on each event has been reduced from 2 dry and 2 wet to 1 dry and 1 wet.
