The FIA World Motorsport Council, meeting in Bologna this week have confirmed the new class encompassing GT3-homologated cars due to join the FIA WEC in 2024 will be named LMGT3
The class is currently planned to include only Pro-Am driver line-ups and replaces the current LM GTE-Am class which starts its final season, and the final season for GTE machinery, in 2023
In line with the regulations of the Hypercar class, torque meter sensors will be mandatory in order to enable live monitoring of powertrain performance.
With reference to the initially announced ‘GT3 Premium’ concept, dedicated bodywork conversion kits will be permitted but not mandatory with all enter cars set to operate within a defined performance window with Balance of Performance applied.
As confirmed in a further statement from the ACO – LMGT3 will be a customer racing class based on Pro/Am-type sporting regulations and will use off-the-shelf tyres produced by a single supplier.
Manufacturers will be able to modify the body for promotional reasons and/or to achieve an aerodynamic performance window suited to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
DSC understands that the same criteria are set to be applied in the European Le Mans Series in 2023 with standard GT3 cars still set too to be welcomed into the Michelin Le Mans Cup.
