Michael Andretti and Wayne Taylor confirmed that their newly merged team have plans rather than ambitions to join the HyperCar class of the FA World Endurance Championship in the coming years.
In a press conference at Daytona, Wayne Taylor had already made it clear that the team is targeting Le Mans in future years before Michael Andretti responded to a question from DSC that the team had ambitions in the full World Championship.
“It’s no secret that we want to do it, I think we’re going to have a satellite facility over in Europe, we already have one we’re setting up and it’s going to be bigger.
“One of the objectives is to hopefully have a WEC team out there in the next few years.”
Further confirmation via Wayne Taylor was that the plans would be aligned with the team’s current and future alliance with Honda.
The team’s involvement in the Le Mans 24 Hours is clearly a major draw in the regard with both partners expanding on the ambition:
Michael Andretti: “That (Le Mans) is a definite goal for us. Our goal is to be in every major racing event in the world. And, obviously, LeMans that’s one of the big ones. And so, down the road, we definitely want to be there.”
Wayne Taylor: “It’s the one race in the world in sportscar racing that we haven’t won overall. So there’s no doubt that this is a major focus for all of us. That’s where we want to be.”
