Daniel Morad Gets Call-Up To Replace Injured Lucas Auer

Daniel Morad is to replace the injured Lucas Auer in the #57 Winward Racing AMG GT3.

Morad has race-winning success at this event having taken the 2017 Rolex 24 GTD class win with Alegra Motorsports.

He has endurance race success too with Mercedes AMG with the 2022 Indianapolis 8 Hour win with Craft-Bamboo Racing.

Morad will join Russell Ward, Indy Donate and Philip Ellis in the #57 car.

The polesetting GTD effort saw disaster yesterday with the AMG written off after a significant accident in Free Practice saw driver Lucas Auer impact the concrete wall on the exit of Turn 2, the car sustaining huge front-end damage and leaving Auer with “significant fractured lumbar injuries”.  He is currently undergoing treatment at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

As this story is being written the Winward racing team are expecting the imminent arrival of their spare car that has been trucked from the team’s Houston, Texas base overnight. The car is the AMG GT3 which the team raced at this event in 2022 taking pole position and finishing 6th in GTD.

The car is understood to be in near-race-ready state.
