Team Motopark today announced it will join the 2023 International GT Open for a full campaign with two Mercedes AMG in what will be the team’s 25 year.
The squad based in Oschersleben is mostly known for its successes with single-seaters, in Formula 3 and in the Euroformula Open (where it dominated the last four seasons), but it does have GT racing pedigree.
“We already had a successful GT branch when we did the Porsche Super Cup in 2010-12 and in the past couple of years, we’ve also offered customer racing support to GT3 privateers on a domestic level, so we know what’s required for that discipline of racing,” says founder and team principal, Timo Rumpfkeil.
“For GT Open, we’ve built on that foundation and recruited some top engineers and staff who have been specializing in GT3 for years and have in dept knowledge of the Mercedes AMG GT3”, Rumpfkeil continues. “We thus expect to be on the ball immediately and look forward to adding some GT3 success to our roll of honor. Our aim is to establish ourselves as one of the leading teams in GT racing.”
In addition to the GT3 programme, Team Motopark will continue being involved in the the Euroformula Open, taking care again of six cars.
“We have kept our successful and experienced team of staff for EFO, thus ensuring the single-seater department can continue where it ended last autumn”, says Rumpfkeil. “By setting up a second branch for GT3, it just made sense for us to double up on the race weekends that the EF and the GT Open share by bringing two strong forces to the tracks and looking for double success in our silver anniversary season”.
The driver line-ups will be announced shortly.
