2022 British GT GT4 Championship-winning outfit Steller Motorsport has revealed the driver crew and livery for its 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup campaign with its #42 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2
The Audi will be driven throughout the 2023 season by 2022 British GT GT4 Drivers Champion Sennan Fielding and long-time historic racer James Wood, the nominated UK ambassador for the Centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the team’s car launched in a dynamic white, orange, grey and red livery.
The car will also proudly wear ‘In Support of Race Against Dementia’ colours for the season, a charity set up by three-time F1 world champion, Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, to fund research into the disease and ultimately find its cure. Full details can be found at: www.raceagainstdementia.com.
The launch, hosted by Alex Legouix at Steller’s impressive Finmere base, was supported by video contributions from ACO President Pierre Fillon, ‘Mr Le Mans’ Tom Kristensen and Sir Jackie Stewart in front of an audience of invited media and friends of the team.
Gary Blackham (Managing Director/Steller Motorsport): “Steller Motorsport have long held an ambition to compete at an international level, and the expanding opportunities in the GT category allows us to move to the next level for 2023. We are pleased to be competing in the Automobile Club de l’Ouest organised Michelin Le Mans Cup with our Audi R8 GT3, a championship that feeds to the European Le Mans Series, the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
Max Daymond (Team Manager/Steller Motorsport): “2022 was an amazing season for the Steller Motorsport team. Following our victory in the British GT4 Championship, we felt the time was right to move to graduate, and we are really looking forward to the year ahead. We have a great driver pairing in Sennan and James to drive our Audi R8 GT3 in the competitive Michelin Le Mans Cup.”
Sennan Fielding (Driver/Steller Motorsport): “I’m very happy to be carrying on the relationship with Steller and to be jumping in the bigger brother of the car, we won the championship with last year. The GT3 is just an ultimate GT car. It just feels so awesome to drive.
“I feel like myself, and Steller as a team., we’ve got stuff to prove. We all did an amazing job last year and I feel like we want to carry on with that and go up against bigger and better teams and tougher opposition and see what we can do when we put ourselves to the test.
James Wood (Driver/Steller Motorsport): “It is fantastic to be racing in an ACO series, especially in this Centenary year. The programme brings together some great elements, not least us racing in support of Race Against Dementia. I am delighted to be driving with Sennan and Steller; thank you JB for bringing us all together. Other interesting news should follow soon”.
James Beckett (Project Liaison) “GT racing is going through something of a boom period right now, and the opportunity for Steller Motorsport to race in Michelin Le Mans Cup events organised by the ACO is great timing. The team are very proud to support Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity, and welcome Jackie’s enthusiasm for our project as we prepare for this season and beyond.”
The 2023 season of Michelin Le Mans Cup action starts at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya in April, before visiting Imola (Italy), Le Mans (France), Paul Ricard (France), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Portimao (Portugal).
