Laguna Seca stat attack
Yesterday’s IMSA race at Laguna Seca produced some interesting stats from its result sheet in the prototype classes.
Up front in GTP, Chip Ganassi’s full-season Cadillac Racing V-Series.R scored its first win of the 2023 campaign, meaning four teams have won the opening four races.
Earlier in the season Meyer Shank Racing won at Rolex, Action Express took the Sebring honours and Porsche Penske Motorsport was victorious at Long Beach.
The victory was also the first for Cadillac Racing in prototype competition at the Laguna racetrack and the second overall. Max Papis drove a Cadillac CTS-V to the win in the 2005 Speed World Challenge GT race. Cadillac, which has won two of the four GTP races this season, has increased its prototype win total to 29 since 2017 and 68 in all classes since 2004.
For driver Sebastien Bourdais, it was also his first-ever IMSA win at Laguna.
In LMP2, it was French outfit TDS Racing’s first IMSA class victory.
Earlier in the meeting, on Saturday, it was also notable that Matt Campbell’s run in Qualifying behind the wheel of the #7 Penske Porsche scored the 963’s first competition pole position globally. The 963 now has a pole and win under its belt in its first season of competition, both results coming in IMSA.
