Will MSR secure an IMSA GTP programme for 2024?
Meyer Shank Racing’s 2024 IMSA GTP prospects became a topic of discussion in sportscar racing circles yesterday, following a comment from HPD President David Salters in the wake of the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport’s driver announcement.
Salters expressed his excitement for the 2024 season, which will see WTR expand its GTP effort to two cars with Acura.
“I’m stoked to see we (HPD/WRT Andretti) have a super strong driver line-up across both our electrified Acura hypercars,” he said. The phraseology within that line clearly suggests there will be only two ARX-06s on the IMSA WeatherTech entry next year, both run by Wayne Taylor’s team.
The confirmation of WTR’s second full season driver pairing follows a story from RACER.com’s Richard James on Meyer Shank’s 2024 plans. (The full story can be found HERE >>>)
“I don’t know what the odds are,” Mike Shank said when asked about the the team’s chances of remaining on the grid next year.
“They float. It goes from 50-50 to 80 per cent right now. It’s coming down to the last minute, which I don’t like a lot. That’s the way it is right now.”
Putting the uncertainty surrounding MSR’s IMSA programme to one side, the future of team’s IndyCar effort appears to be secure.
Earlier this week it announced that Tom Blomqvist, who currently competes full time with the team in GTP, will make the switch to IndyCar with the team next season. Multiple Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves has also recently become part of the team’s ownership group.
Will Ferrari’s F1 cars to pay tribute to the 499P?
Multiple reports this week have suggested that Scuderia Ferrari’s SF-23s are set to compete in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix sporting a livery that pays tribute to the Ferrari AF Corse 499P that won the Le Mans 24 Hours.
