Inter Europol Tops Aragon Night Practice

All 42 cars make use of the night running...

The #43 Inter Europol ORECA topped Free Practice 2 this evening at Motorland Aragon, with Olli Caldwell setting a 1:48.316 to go 0.143 clear at the top.

The session, which began with the sun setting over the Spanish circuit, was the first opportunity for the ELMS teams to run in full darkness ahead of tomorrow night’s into-the-night race. The Aragon circuit at night is only lit by a series of small spotlights pointed at the apex of the corners.

The top three in the session were made up of LMP2 class runners, with the #47 COOL Racing ORECA second, and the #30 Duqueine ORECA third.

The best of the LMP2 Pro/Am runners was the #21 United Autosports 07 Gibson was fourth overall, with a 1:48.670 from Filipe Albuquerque. The #37 COOL Racing ORECA ended up second in the sub-class and seventh overall, completing 45 tours of the circuit, the most of any car in the field.

In LMP3, after multiple cars sat out Free Practice 1 earlier today to save tyres for tonight’s session, all 12 cars made an appearance. The #4 DKR Engineering Duqueine ended up top with Marcos Siebert’s 1:54.058. Further, down the order, the #11 Eurointernational Ligier completed 42 laps, the most of anyone in the darkness.

GTE was topped by the Iron Lynx Porsche with a 1:57.265 from Matteo Cairoli. The #55 Spirit of Race and #50 Formula Racing Ferraris ended up second and third. Like LMP3, the most amount of laps completed in the class was 42, by the #57 Kessel Racing 488 GTE Evo.

Tomorrow is race day for the ELMS teams, which gets underway at 18:00 local time after Qualifying earlier in the day at 10:15 am.
