Bell Crowned GT4 Champion As Gidley Wins GT America Finale

Kevin Woods drives KTM X-Bow GT2 to first American victory

Jason Bell won his second GT America GT4 class championship after finishing second in Sunday’s season finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Robb Holland won his eighth race of the season from pole position but Bell’s runner-up finish allowed the Tampa native to secure his second title in the series by just two points.

The #099 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 of Holland, the #2 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Bell, and the #50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Aston Martin of Ross Chouest spent almost the entire 40-minute race running tail-to-nose, with Holland doing everything he could to hold off Bell and draw 2022 champion Chouest into the mix.

Encounters with faster SRO3 class traffic made things even more interesting with two laps to go, eventually bringing all three drivers back together on the last lap.

The three GT4 leaders crossed the line separated by 0.545 seconds. For Bell, the championship-winning result was a relief after losing the lead in the final minutes on Friday. Holland, in defeat, was gracious, and already looking forward to next season.

With the championship secure, 2023 SRO3 class champion Memo Gidley and the #101 TKO Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 won their eighth race of the season and swept the Indianapolis weekend.

Gidley cleared polesitter George Kurtz on the opening lap while two separate incidents broke out behind them, though the race stayed green for all 40 minutes.

In that time, Gidley kept Kurtz at bay and took the win by over three seconds.

That seals a double championship for Flying Lizard Motorsports, which has supported TKO Motorsports throughout its time in SRO America racing.

Kurtz, the newly-crowned GT World Challenge America Pro-Am champion, finished second in his #04 CrowdStrike by Riley Mercedes, and will head to Road Atlanta next weekend to chase another championship in the IMSA LMP2 class.

Pro-Am championship runner-up Adam Adelson made the decision to enter the final race in the same #120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R that he shared with Elliott Skeer and Callum Ilott less than 24 hours ago. He charged from the back of the SRO3/GT2 combined grid to finish third ahead of the first-generation #3 SKI Autosport Audi R8 LMS of Johnny O’Connell.

GT America SRO3 championship runner-up Jason Daskalos rounded out the top five in his #27 CRP Racing Mercedes. He was involved in one of the two first-lap incidents along with Kyle Washington, Mirco Schultis, and GT2 Race 1 winner Dan Knox.

Kevin Woods in the #094 Chicago Performance & Tuning KTM X-Bow GT2 won the GT2 class, and just as Dan Knox did for the Mercedes-AMG GT2 in Race 1, Woods also gave the KTM X-Bow GT2 its first win in America.

CJ Moses finished second in his #58 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT2, while Knox recovered to finish third in his #80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes.
