Gibson Technology will continue to be the sole supplier of engines for LMP2 prototypes from 2026 onwards, the FIA and ACO have confirmed today.
The Repton-based company has been the exclusive global supplier of LMP2 engines since the current generation of LMP2 cars made their debut in 2017 with the GK428 (below). Its status has been extended for a further five seasons with this contract which will see it supply teams with a new 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8.
This bulletin comes in the fallout of the recent FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Geneva and marks the conclusion of a tender process that was launched by the FIA and ACO back in May.
According to the FIA and ACO, “the tendering procedure took several factors into account, such as performance, weight and reliability, running and maintenance costs of the unit, spare parts cost as well as the bidding company’s infrastructure and customer service abilities, its sustainability, plus its environmental and carbon footprint.”
DSC believes Gibson faced competition from Mecachrome in the tender process.
The new engine is expected to be based on the current GK428.
