Much better news from Project 1 AO this morning. Its #56 ‘Rexy’ Porsche 911 RSR 19 is set to be ready for Qualifying and the race later today after all.
Members of the team reported to DSC last night that rear-left chassis damage left the car “beyond immediate repair” after its rear-end impact in Free Practice 2 yesterday. However, a full inspection later that night revealed that it was fixable after all.
With no spare chassis available, due to this weekend’s 8 Hours of Bahrain being the final race for the GTE platform, a rebuild of the current car was the only option available.
An enquiry at the team garage this morning revealed that smiles had replaced the frowns of yesterday evening, with the left rear corner back to pristine condition. The car will run in FP3 this morning.
