GTE Year By Year Gallery: 2020

The pandemic puts a stop to a lot of things, but not GTE racing!

2020 will forever be linked with the global pandemic, which saw motorsport grind to a halt for a number of months while governments around the world scrambled to slow the spread of COVID-19. Once racing got back underway as the summer months arrived, while most races were held without crowds and strict protocols, there were plenty of memorable moments to look back on fondly.

The highlights of 2020 included Aston Martin Racing’s GTE Pro victory at Le Mans and GTE Pro title, BMW’s second consecutive Rolex 24 GTLM win with the M8 GTLM and Proton Competition’s ELMS GTE championship win.

The ELMS title for Proton deserves an honourable mention, as it was awarded after Kessel Racing’s #74 Ferrari finished with the same number of points, wins, second places and pole positions that season. Christian Ried, Michele Beretta and Alessio Picariello were declared champions in the most extroadinary tie-breaker: for winning the opening race of the season at Paul Ricard.

2020 also saw Corvette debut the C8.R, which unfortunately didn’t race at Le Mans due to travel restrictions, but did win six of the 11 IMSA races in its maiden campaign.
