AO Racing’s Rexy Stomps Up To GTD Pro

Michael Christensen joins Priaulx and Heinrich for Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona

AO Racing has officially confirmed that its GTD Pro class #77 Porsche 911 GT3 R will adorn the colours of the fan-favourite Rexy, the “GT3 Rawr”, for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

As AO Racing declares in its press release issued today: “Rexy the fan-favorite Tyrannosaurus Rex has been spending time in the gym, getting bulked up for his step up from GTD to GTD Pro.

“During the off-season, Rexy’s handlers have been running full steam ahead in their preparations for the exciting new season ahead. While Rexy has been training those biceps to race the all-pro competition, the team from St. Charles, Illinois has been hard at work preparing and testing the Porsche 911 GT3 R, getting ready for the first event of the season, the Roar Before the 24.”

That step up in competition for GT racing’s apex predator also includes confirmation that Porsche works driver Michael Christensen will join the team at this year’s Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, accompanying full-season drivers Sebastian Priaulx and Laurin Heinrich.

“Rexy is ready to step up to GTD Pro,” said Team Principal Gunnar Jeannette. “The public welcomed our GT3 Rawr with open arms and it was a no-brainer to bring Rexy back for another season of racing. The addition of Michael to the team only strengthens our effort as we advance to the GTD Pro class.”

“I’m very pleased to join AO Racing for the Rolex 24 at Daytona,” said Christensen. “It’s a great team, with a lot of talented people and a good driver lineup. I truly believe that we should be in a strong position to fight for a top position!”

Christensen has been a Porsche factory driver since 2013. He won the GTD class at Daytona in 2017 driving for Alegra Motorsports. In 2018, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE Pro class, and later won the 2018-19 FIA World Endurance Championship “Super Season” title.

The Danish driver, who was part of the Porsche 963 Hypercar’s world racing debut last year at Daytona, is set to run a second full season in the WEC for Porsche Penske Motorsports in the Hypercar category.
