Brabham Group & Brabham Automotive Cease Collaboration

Brabham BT62 and Brabham BT63 projects end

A social media post this evening from David Brabham confirms that the collaboration between his family-owned Brabham Group Limited and Fusion Capital “Majority shareholder, sole funder and operator of the automotive company that bears the famous name.” Brabham Automotive Holding Pty Ltd, have terminated their collaboration after a six year programme to design, develop and produce the Brabham BT62 and BT63 track-only cars.

The BT62 had limited competition history in its short life with racing success in the UK in Britcar and GT Cup in both factory and private hands.

The derivative BT63 raced for a part single season, fielded by High Class Racing on behalf of the factory in the GT2 European Series.

The collaboration started with high ambitions and looked at a number of avenues for progress in motorsport and beyond with both Hypercar and GTE programmes at least informally evaluated at various points.

The programme though struggled for traction, unlike the cars which proved to be very quick, Luke Youlden taking a BT62 around the Mount Panorama Circuit On 2 February 2019 in 1:58.694 during a demonstration at the Bathurst 12 Hour to set an unofficial but impressive outright lap record for. non-single seater car.

The timing of the Covid pandemic was yet another challenge for a company already in a highly competitive market sector and time it seems has now been called on the latest chapter for a famous motorsport marque.
