This morning’s Free Practice 2 session for the Asian Le Mans Series teams at the Dubai Autodrome was topped by Algarve Pro Racing’s Toby Sowery.
The 28-year-old Briton set a 1:48.104 in the second half of the session, the lap over a second faster than the best time from the first practice session set by Proton’s Giorgio Roda yesterday.
Behind, it was a 1-2 in the times for Algarve Pro, with late arrival Malthe Jakobsen setting a 1:48.272 in the #4 Crowdstrike Racing by APR ORECA.
Third in the times was the #22 Proton Competition 07 Gibson. This time Julien Andlauer was the fastest driver. The pair of Nielsen Racing entries ended up fourth and fifth with the #34 leading the #24.
In LMP3, after trading fast times with the High Class Racing Ligier, the Bretton Racing JS P320 would finish the session with the best lap. Ligier European Series graduate Mihnea Stefan set the team’s best time, a 1:54.884.
COOL Racing’s #17 Ligier completed the top three, a tenth off the High Class Ligier that ended the session 1.1 seconds off Bretton’s benchmark.
The GT class saw the Mercedes-AMGs in the field run fast, though the best time would come from Riccardo Pera in GR Racing’s #86 Ferrari 296 GT3.
His 1:58.067 was three tenths clear of the AMGs that slotted in second, third and fourth. The best of the trio was the #88 Triple Eight JMR example, after Jordan Love’s 1:58.383 that was initially good enough to put the car at the top of the list.
Best of the rest, fractionally slower than the AMG GT3s from Getspeed was the #42 Saintéloc Racing Audi which ended up fifth.
Free Practice 2, like FP1, was a pretty clean session, with no major incidents. Once again track limits violations were frequent, with stop go penalties being handed throughout.
