A week after finishing third in class at the 12 Hours of Sebring, Wright Motorsports has announced that drivers Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer will return to contest their second full season in the GT World Challenge America series.
This will be their second season competing in GT World Challenge America, and their first in the Pro class – after an impressive 2023 debut campaign in Pro-Am that saw the duo of Skeer and Adelson record six class victories, one overall race victory at Circuit of the Americas, eight class podiums and five overall podiums in the #120 Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Together they finished a close second in the Pro-Am Championship behind champions George Kurtz and Colin Braun of CrowdStrike Racing by Riley. Last season they raced with the previous 991.2-generation Porsche, and in 2024, they will run the latest 992-generation model that won the Pro class title in 2023.
Adelson and Skeer have been supplementing their growing GT3 experience with a part-time IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship campaign. They soaked up the limelight at Daytona, as part of a cross-promotional campaign with producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming motorsports motion picture – with Skeer even playing the role of actor Brad Pitt’s stunt double.
Then at Sebring, they along with Wright Motorsports mainstay Jan Heylen battled back from suffering damage in a crash on the first lap to finish third in the GTD class.
“It’s great to have Adam and Elliott back for another season,” said team owner and namesake John Wright. “They are a great addition to the team and showed impressive growth throughout the 2023 season. For the fourth year in a row, Wright Motorsports has been in the hunt for the championship in the final race, and this year, we’re ready for another fight for the title.”
Wright Motorsports won the 2020 Am class and 2021 Pro-Am class championships with Fred Poordad joined by Max Root and Heylen, respectively. In 2022, Heylen teamed with his father-in-law Charlie Luck and the duo finished second in the Pro-Am standings.
“GT World Challenge America year two! I cannot wait to be back in the SRO paddock for another year alongside Adam and Wright Motorsports,” said Skeer, who had an outstanding individual performance at Sebring and hopes to carry that momentum into the upcoming opening race at Sonoma Raceway.
“Last year we grew an unbelievable amount both on the track and within the team. We were able to show we can take the fight to the field as rookies. Now it’s time to do it again but with more experience and confidence in the Pro class!
“This is a bigger step for Adam, but he has exceeded my expectations on literally every single step he has made in his short but packed career so far. The Wright Motorsports family are firing on all cylinders right now and I cannot wait to carry the 2024 momentum into the season opener at Sonoma here in a couple of weeks!
“I’m beyond excited to be coming back to the SRO paddock this year, this time in the GT World Challenge America Pro class,” added his co-driver Adelson, who is also in his second full season of driving GT3 cars – and just his fourth year of organised sportscar racing. “SRO hosted the first professional-level series I raced in during the 2021 season, and it’s a full circle moment to not only return to the paddock in their top-level series, but in their top class as well.
“I’m really excited to continue learning the art of racing GT3, and to put those lessons to the test against some extremely talented teams and drivers.”
After the season-opening SRO America round at Sonoma, Adelson and Skeer will also race in the IMSA round at Long Beach on 20 April, then contest the remainder of the Michelin Endurance Cup with co-driver Heylen at Watkins Glen, Indianapolis, and Road Atlanta.
