Running today for the second day of testing prior to the season opening GT World Challenge America weekend at Sonoma Raceway has been cancelled after significant issues arose during day one of testing yesterday, DSC has heard from entrants that the newly relaid track surface had started to come apart in patches at several points on the circuit.
The issue arose during running yesterday and initially saw a joint GT World Challenge and GT America session cancelled on Wednesday before confirmation came today that all Thursday track action was to be cancelled too as the circuit management worked on a resolution.
In a statement released to DSC, a spokesperson for SRO America said: “During yesterday’s test day, it appears that some of the new pavement came apart in some areas around the track. As a precautionary measure, track management and series officials collectively elected to cancel today’s session to undergo some reparations.”
Track action is currently set to resume on Friday.
