DXDT Corvette Test Programme Begins, Satellite Team Formed

New Regulator Racing team will field Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Burton & Ellis

DXDT Racing’s plans in GT World Challenge America are now becoming clearer as the debut of its new Corvette Racing programme approaches.

The North Carolina-based team announced on 12 April that it had taken delivery of its two Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs. Last week, both cars went out for their first tests around Sebring International Raceway – where at least one of them will make their series debuts on 3-5 May.

Bryan Sellers tested the #08 Corvette that he’ll share with co-driver Scott Smithson for the remainder of the GT World Challenge America season, beginning at Sebring.

Corvette Racing works driver Tommy Milner tested the second car, wearing the number 63. DXDT Racing has not yet confirmed when the second Corvette will make its in-race debut – an official entry list for Sebring will be released on Friday.

Today, DXDT confirmed that its #91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Jeff Burton and Philip Ellis will run the remainder of the season – but beginning at Sebring, the #91 Mercedes will be entered under the banner of Regulator Racing.

Regulator Racing is a new satellite team owned by DXDT’s David Askew and operated by most of the same DXDT crew that ran the car at Sonoma.

“Our partnership with Mercedes-AMG is strong and always has been,” Askew said of the ongoing programme with Burton and Ellis. “We’ve made some progress on getting that car and the program where it needs to be. Working closely with them and bringing talent like Philip in to help us develop that car shows our commitment to getting this car where it should be: the podium.

“Our aim is to have the fastest Mercedes on track, and I think this move will help us get closer to that goal.”

Ellis and Burton finished eighth and seventh in the two races at Sonoma, while Smithson and Sellers finished seventh and fourth in their final two races with the Mercedes-AMG.
