Phantom Global Racing is set to compete in the 24 Hours of Spa for the first time this year. The Chinese Porsche customer team will attempt to claim the German brand’s ninth overall victory in the race with a 911 GT3 R (992) driven by Thomas Preining, Jaxon Evans and Joel Eriksson.
It will not be Phanton Global’s first IGTC race though, as the squad finished fourth on its race debut at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February. Evans and Eriksson were also present during the Australian event, and are aiming for another competitive display in Belgium.
Since then, the team has continued its 2024 campaign with positive showings in GT World Challenge Asia, where Evans and Eriksson have raced for the squad, and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.
“It’s a privilege to be part of the Phantom Global Racing line-up for the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Spa,” said Evans. “We have a strong crew behind us and together with Joel and Thomas, I believe we are capable of fighting for victory. It’s the biggest GT race in the world on one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport history, so it doesn’t get much better than this!”
The trio of drivers brings a wealth of GT experience to the team for its first attack on the race. Reigning DTM champion Preining has taken on the 24 Hours of Spa three times, Evans has a strong racing CV with Porsche, having competed in Porsche GT machinery in WEC, IMSA, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Eriksson, a race winner with Falken in NLS competition and will make his Spa 24 debut.
“After a fantastic debut for Phantom Global Racing earlier this year at the Bathurst 12 Hour, we are happy to once again work with the team as they take on their second Intercontinental GT Challenge race,” Alexandre Gibot, managing director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd said.
“The 24 Hours of Spa is iconic, demanding and will be a real test for the teams competing. Phantom Global Racing have put together a competitive line-up together with Thomas, Jaxon and Joel, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the team take on the Prologue next week in advance of the main event in just over a month from now.”
Track activity begins on Tuesday 26 June, building up to the start of the main event at 16:30 CEST on Saturday 29 June.
