Motor Racing Legends is launching a new ‘GT3 Legends’ series, expanding its portfolio of historic racing series to a series for which 2006-2012 homologated GT3 cars are eligible with cars allowed to run up to 2015 specification.
The new GT3 Legends series is launched in collaboration with renowned GT racing expert Jarrah Venables with grids that will comprise of three classes, relating to the age of the vehicle, which is intended to allow for competitive racing for both early and late models.
The team are currently busy working on the series’ regulations with Jarrah Venables, the founder of the successful Endurance Racing Legends series, and expect to publish them in the coming weeks.
The inaugural race for the GT3 Legends category is scheduled to take place at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on 19-20 October at MRL’s own event, with the intention of introducing a number of European rounds.
This event will mark 18 years since the first ever GT3 race took place at the iconic British circuit, when the pioneer of GT3 racing, Stéphane Ratel, launched the category.
GT3 Legends joins the suite of Motor Racing Legends Series that include:
Pre-War Sports Cars: The pioneers of motorsport history come to life in this grid that celebrates the golden age of motor racing with pre-1941 sports cars, including Bentley, Bugatti and Alfa Romeo.
Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy: Featuring the crème de la crème of 1950s sports car racing history this series brings together genuine Le Mans cars, and legends of the pre-1956 sports car racing scene together. Aston Martins, Jaguar C-types, Maserati’s, Austin Healey and Frazer Nash all regularly feature.
Stirling Moss Trophy: Named in honour of the legendary British racing driver, this category showcases pre-1961 sports racing cars, featuring iconic marques such as Lister, Lotus, Cooper and Jaguar.
Pre ‘63 GT: A grid of distinction, the Pre ’63 GT category takes place at selected events, with the Royal Automobile Club presenting its Historic Tourist Trophy to the winner of the race at the Silverstone Festival annually.
The Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup: The ultimate three-hour endurance race brings together all the ingredients; from driver changes to in-race refuelling in a multi-class format featuring some of the most beautiful pre ’66 cars that mean you’re never far from high-octane action.
Jaguar Classic Challenge: Open to Pre-‘66 E-types, C and D-types, and all XKs and Mk 1 and Mk 2 saloons – this highly regarded series, founded by Jaguar Classic in 2015, is an integral part of the Motor Racing Legends programme.
Sixties Touring Car Challenge with U2TC: For Under Two Litre Touring Cars up to 1969, this grid is the home of Pre-’66 under two litre saloon cars for many years, with a recent expansion to welcome the Sixties Touring Car Challenge for under two litre touring cars from the ’66–’69 period.
Tony Dron Trophy: Named in honour of ‘70s Touring Car ace and Le Mans 24 Hours driver, the late Tony Dron, this is a stand-alone series for Group 1 and ‘1½’ Touring Cars.
Historic Touring Car Challenge: From the iconic era of Group A, Group 2 and Group 5, this category brings an arousing thunder of Sierra Cosworth RS500s, BMW CSL ‘Batmobiles’ and E30 M3, Nissan Skyline GTR and Rover SD1s amongst others.
