The privately-entered #83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P Hypercar looks set to return to the FIA World Endurance Championship for a second consecutive season in 2025, very likely with an unchanged driver squad.
The #83, crewed in 2024 by Ferrari factory drivers Yifei Ye and Robert Shwartzman together with ex-F1 racer, 2022 ELMS and 2023 FIA WEC LMP2 Champion Robert Kubica, currently sits second in the FIA World Cup for private Hypercar teams, having scored a class win in the second round of the season in Imola.
Speaking to DSC in Maranello yesterday, Ferrari’s global head of Endurance Racing and Corse Clients Antonello Coletta said:
“Having the third car has been valuable for a number of reasons. Of course we have access to more data which is helping us to develop the 499P more quickly and effectively.
“We have two young drivers who should be the future for the official cars and having an experienced driver like (Robert) Kubica in the same car is also a big advantage in helping their development.
“It is also helpful to bring forward new engineers on the programme.
“Our current plan is to go forward (into 2025) exactly the same.”
Coletta also re-confirmed that Ferrari have no plans to expand the number of 499Ps in competition in 2025 from the current three cars (2 x factory entered Ferrari AF Corse and the single privately-entered AF Corse car in the FIA WEC).
He added that there were no plans to expand the programme with additional cars, or additional races in IMSA’s Weathertech SportsCar Championship through to the end of 2025.
