Michelin and the European Le Mans Series have reached an agreement to extend the partnership for the French tyre manufacturer to continue as the sole tyre supplier for the LMP3 category in the ELMS into a new era for the class.
In a multi-year extension to the agreement, Michelin will supply all of the LMP3 teams with a selection of race tyres at each of the six rounds of the series.
The partnership will take Michelin into the 2025 season in the ELMS with the cars set to feature new twin-turbo power and newly upgraded cars to replace the current crop with Ginetta and Duqueine at least set to join Ligier in offering 2025-spec cars, Ligier unveiled their JS P325 this week at Le Mans.
Frédéric Lequien, Le Mans Endurance Management (LMEM) CEO:“The European Le Mans Series is pleased to announce that Michelin will continue to be the sole tyre supplier for the LMP3 category in the ELMS starting in 2025.
Having a leading tyre manufacturer as the sole supplier is crucial to keeping team operating budgets under control and Michelin have consistently provided great value tyres for endurance racing. I would like to thank Michelin for their continued support for this important class of Le Mans Prototypes.”
Julien Vial, Customer Racing Director:”Tires for endurance prototypes are one of Michelin’s specialties. Even though they are less advanced than Le Mans Hypercars, LMP3s have high performance requirements and significant aerodynamic loads.
With less complex electronics than the major prototype categories, LMP3s allow drivers to benefit from the full grip, feel and consistency of the tires. We consider LMP3 prototypes to be one of our priorities and we are delighted to keep working hand in hand with LMEM in the European Le Mans Series for this category. The tire range for LMP3 offers very high-quality and performance within a controlled budget”.
