Brazillian racer Pipo Derani is set to part ways with Action Express Racing at the end of the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
The departure of the multiple IMSA championship-winning driver will come after a long association with Action Express Racing and Cadillac, dating back to the 2019 IMSA season opener at Daytona.
His successes with the team, and Cadillac, include two regular season IMSA championships in 2021 and 2023, two Michelin Endurance Cup titles in 2019 and 2023, two wins at the Sebring 12 Hours and a Petit Le Mans win.
Derani announced the news on his social media channels this afternoon. His reveal comes on the eve of the 2024 Six Hours at The Glen, in which he will compete for the overall win with Jack Aitken and Tom Blomqvist in the #31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R operated by Action Express.
“We have mutually agreed not to go forward together past this year,” Derani said.
“We’ve had a fantastic time together with two championships, two endurance championships and many race wins and pole positions. I truly have enjoyed my time with this team and with Cadillac.
“I appreciate everything they’ve given me, what they’ve done for my career and all the good times we’ve had together will forever be in my memory. It’s time to go win a third championship this year together before both of us move different ways.”
There is no official word yet on where Derani is headed for the 2025 season, or who will replace him at Action Express, which is expected to return to IMSA GTP next year for a third season with the V-Series.R.
