WTRAndretti GTP driver Filipe Albuquerque will return to the IMSA LMP2 class for a one-off appearence in the upcoming race at CTMP, competing with United Autosports in its #22 ORECA 07 Gibson with full-season driver Daniel Goldburg.
Albuquerque is available to compete as the round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is only open to LMP2 and GTD Pro and GTD cars. The next round for the GTP teams is the IMSA Sportscar Weekend at Road America on August 4th.
He will race in the seat usually filled by Paul Di Resta, who is unable to make the trip to Canada with United due to the clash with the FIA WEC round in Brazil. There he will race with Peugeot in the Hypercar class.
“I am really looking forward to race in Mosport [Canadian Tire Motorsport Park] with United,” said Albuquerque, who has been a regular LMP2 driver with United for a number of years. “We will be racing for the overall victory.
“I had the chance to meet Daniel [Goldburg] already and we had a great feeling. On top of that, I got a nice warm up at Le Mans to get back into the LMP2. We want to fight for the win for sure.”
Richard Dean, United Autosports’ CEO, feels this is a fantastic opportunity for both drivers, who have the chance to score the team’s first overall IMSA race win.
“It’s always a pleasure to race with Filipe,” he added. “So with Paul fulfilling his commitments with Peugeot in the WEC, it was an easy choice. Filipe is super quick, reliable and a fantastic mentor for other drivers.
“I’m sure Daniel will learn a lot from him in Canada. Sadly, the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t go to plan for Filipe and the United Autosports #23 LMP2 crew this year, so this is our opportunity to celebrate victory together in 2024.”
There will be no change to United Autosports’ other driver line-up for the race, with Ben Keating set to share the Wynns-liveried #2 ORECA with Ben Hanley.
The Chevrolet Grand Prix is set to run at CTMP on July 14th.
