An updated version of next year’s GT World Challenge Europe calendar has been revealed, with Magny-Cours confirmed as the tenth venue for the 2025 season in the most significant alteration from the calendar unveiled at last month’s 24 Hours of Spa.
Magny-Cours will host a Sprint Cup round on the 1st-3rd August, taking up a ‘TBA’ slot which was previously expected to be filled by a November Endurance Cup event at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia.
At the 24 Hours of Spa, SRO founder Stephane Ratel explained that the organisation was waiting to assess November’s inaugural running of the Jeddah event before committing to returning in 2024. The decision though has been made early to remove the event from a return to the calendar after what is now set to be a one-off in November.
Magny-Cours returned to the calendar in 2024 after a season out but was not included on the initial 2025 schedule. The track will host the next round of this year’s GT World Challenge Europe, a Sprint Cup event on the 23rd-25th August.
To keep an even split between Sprint and Endurance rounds, the new season finale at Barcelona has reverted to the Endurance Cup format it used from 2021-2023. This makes the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, which is returning after a year away for 2025, the new Sprint Cup finale.
The Paul Ricard season opener has been extended from three to six hours, returning it to the into-the-night format used from 2015-2023.
It’ll be the first time that GT World Challenge Europe has opened with a race longer than three hours.
As it has been since 2013, with the exception of the pandemic-affected 2020 season, the Endurance Cup will again be made up of three Three Hour Races, one Six hour race and the 24 hours of Spa.
