The GT Association (GTA) released its provisional 2025 Autobacs SUPER GT Series calendar on Thursday, revealing that Petronas Sepang International Circuit will stage the series’ first event outside of Japan since 2019.
The Malaysian circuit, which previously hosted JGTC/SUPER GT races from 2000 until 2013, will host the third round of the 2025 season on Friday-Saturday, 27/28 June. The format of the event will be announced at a later date.
Sepang was originally set to return to the SUPER GT calendar four years ago, with a night-time race planned for the summer of 2020. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of that event – and the indefinite postponement of any flyaway rounds.
Since then, Sepang has been part of the GT World Challenge Asia calendar since its return to action in 2022, and welcomed the Asian Le Mans Series back to kick off the 2023-24 season. GT500 cars returned to Sepang in January for a private tyre test conducted by Honda, Nissan, and Toyota.
Sepang’s return in exchange for the spring date at Suzuka Circuit is the only major change to the eight-race calendar, which begins on Sunday 13 April at Okayama International Circuit. Okayama will host the opening round of the championship for the 18th time in its history, the most of any venue.
Following that is the Golden Week race at Fuji Speedway, scheduled for its traditional date of Sunday, 4 May. Fuji will also host the fourth round of the championship on 3 August to kick off the year’s “mid-summer triple.”
That stretch will continue at Suzuka Circuit, host of the fifth round of the season on 24 August. Sportsland Sugo retains its end-of-summer calendar slot on 21 September, followed by the penultimate round at Autopolis on 19 October, and the season finale which will be held at Mobility Resort Motegi on 2 November – the 16th time that Motegi will host the last round of the season.
