BMW To Part Ways With Team RMG

After a 14-year partnership...

BMW M Motorsport and Team RMG (Reinhold Motorsport GmbH) are set to part ways at the end of the 2024 racing season after a 14-year collaboration.

Originally Reinhold Motorsport GmbH was founded to prepare for BMW’s DTM comeback in the 2012 season. Since then the partnership between the two organisations has been a successful one.

Between 2012 and 2020, BMW M Team RMG competed in 140 DTM races with the BMW M3 DTM and the BMW M4 DTM, scoring 19 victories, winning two drivers’ titles (with Marco Wittmann in 2014 and 2016) and a teams’ title in 2014.

Since the start of the 2021 season, BMW M Team RMG has been involved in GT racing at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the BMW Junior Team and has also served as the official test team for BMW M Motorsport.

In this role, it played a significant part in the development of the BMW M Hybrid V8, the BMW M4 GT3, and the BMW M4 GT4.

The collaboration is coming to a close off the back of a podium at the 2024 fog-shortened 24 Hours of Nürburgring earlier this year with Daniel Harper, Max Hesse, and Charles Weerts.

“I would like to thank Stefan Reinhold and his team for 14 years of collaboration,” Andreas Roos, the head of BMW Motorsport said.

“During my time as head of BMW M Motorsport, I have come to know BMW M Team RMG as an ambitious operational and valuable and reliable test team that has made a very important contribution to the development of our race cars.

“Of course, the joint title wins in the DTM will remain unforgettable from a sporting perspective.

“I am pleased to have experienced another sporting highlight live with the podium at this year’s 24h Nürburgring.

“Unfortunately, our plans for our future set-up do not provide a common perspective. Therefore, our collaboration will end with the conclusion of the current season. I wish the team all the best!”

BMW has confirmed that RMG will continue to fulfil its duties with the marque until the end of the year. No further details have been given on the reason for the split.

It is not yet clear what the future holds for RMG once it officially cuts ties with BMW.
