Inter Europol Competition’s Tom Dillmann completed a 2:01.435 in the Polish team’s #43 ORECA to go fastest in the second and final practice session of the ELMS weekend at Spa this morning, held in bright sunshine.
His time was 0.169 up on the rest of the field in FP2, but a tenth shy of Charles Milesi’s session-topping lap from Free Practice 1 for Panis Racing yesterday.
Times are however expected to tumble and dip into the high 1:50s during Qualifying, where the LMP2 drivers tasked with driving will get a taste of a the resurfaced Spa circuit without LMP3 or LMGT3 traffic and their ORECAs back to full power.
The #9 Iron Lynx Proton ORECA ended up second with the Panis Racing ORECA third.
The top 12 on the leaderboard were all LMP2 class cars, with the fastest of the Pro/Am runners the #83 07 from AF Corse which slotted in 13th with a 2:03.808.
In LMP3 Team Virage’s #8 Ligier ended up topping the times with a 2:12.674, two tenths faster than the WTM by Rinaldi Duqueine.
LMGT3 saw Kessel Racing lead a Ferrari 1-2-3-4, ahead of the Spirit of Racing, JMW and Formula Racing 296s. The best time was a 2:16.355 set by Daniel Serra.
All but one of the cars in the 43-car field took to the circuit in FP2. Iron Dames missed the entire session as the team’s brand new Porsche, which was delivered to the circuit last night following Rahel Frey’s FP1 incident, is not yet ready.
DSC visited the team’s garage during the session to get an update and found the team’s mechanics frantically building up the new chassis. Proton Competition boss Christian Ried confirmed that the car is on track to be ready to take part in Qualifying this afternoon.
Qualifying is set to get underway at 14:00 local time.
