There has been nothing official from Hyundai on its Hypercar and GTP plans, but there are industry sources aplenty pointing towards an imminent announcement for a WEC effort, with an IMSA GTP programme to follow shortly afterwards.
Suggestions have been made that an alliance with ORECA on an LMDh car has been made, with sources indicating that key staff are already in the process of relocating to the Paul Ricard area.
Hyundai is expected to mount its WEC programme from 2026 with an in-house team, though again DSC is aware that significant current industry expertise is being gathered around the effort.
Before that, keep an eye out for a new LMP2 effort in the 2025 European Le Mans Series linked to this, which will allow key personnel to acquaint themselves with racing prototypes, and, in particular, the ACO rulebook.
That is unlikely to be branded as Hyundai, with several options for the branding of the team currently on the table, including more than one current ELMS team, and at least one that has expertise in an entirely different area of motorsport!
As for the IMSA GTP effort – whether branded as Hyundai or, as is distinctly possible, its Genesis halo brand – there are a number of options on the table for a service provider, including some surprises.
