Sean Creech Motorsports’ omission from the Battle on the Bricks provisional entry list was something of a surprise when it was published on Wednesday.
Today the team has confirmed its decision to forgo the upcoming six-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to focus on regrouping for Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. This decision comes after Lance Willsey, the team’s Bronze driver, voluntarily put his racing activities on hold.
“First and foremost, we wish Lance the best,” said Team Principal and namesake Sean Creech. “Going forward, I am absolutely committed to keeping this team going, preferably in the LMP2 category. We’re in discussions with several drivers and sponsors and are open to additional options.”
Sean Creech Motorsport is “actively discussing options with alternate sponsors and drivers” in order to finish the season at Road Atlanta with their Ligier JS P217, the only Ligier on the IMSA LMP2 grid. Tonis Kasemets ran in Willsey’s place at the previous IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America, alongside veteran João Barbosa.
Through five races, the #33 SCM Ligier has a best finish of fourth in class at the Sebring 12 Hours, with Willsey and Barbosa joined by third driver Jonny Edgar.
For now, ten ORECA LMP2 07s will compete at Indianapolis next weekend.
