Whilst much of the attention over the future shape of the FIA WEC’s Hypercar class is currently focused on Genesis’ announcement and the active interest from several currently uncommitted OEMs as manufacturer entries, it would not be correct to presume that interest has stalled amongst potential privateer efforts.
Indeed, ahead of the race meeting proper getting underway at Fuji there was a clear sign that another major player is taking a direct interest.
Rodin Motorsport (previously Carlin) co-owner David Dicker was on hand at the circuit on Thursday (pictured above with fellow Kiwi Earl Bamber) and was observed in conversation with a number of teams and manufacturer representatives. Paddock sources confirmed to DSC that the New Zealand businessman is keen to source a car with the intent on entering competition when possible with the FIA WEC the preferred avenue.
The current F2 entrant (running Zane Maloney and current Toyota Development Driver Ritomo Miyata in the 2024 Championship) has expressed a desire to look at F1 and Indycar and, it seems, the booming sportscar scene has now been added to that wish-list.
Where and when, and with what, could be quite the enigma!
