IMSA has confirmed that seven GTP cars have been impounded after today’s Battle of the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as part of their ongoing process to ensure that each team is operating their cars within the prescribed performance criteria.
Our colleagues at RACER.com have confirmed significant detail of the process, which is to be undertaken with each car, as the season progresses to its conclusion next month at Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
Each impounded car is set to undertake a full 3D bodywork scan, full drivetrain teardown and legality checks, plus full checks on part numbers and dimensions for parts subject to homologation.
The process is understood to have been long pre-planned and is not in response to any particular specific concern.
IMSA’s post-race statement reads:
“At the conclusion of the Battle on the Bricks, IMSA impounded selected GTP cars to conduct extended post-race technical inspection through Monday and Tuesday.
“The impounded cars are as follows: #24 BMW, #6 Penske Porsche, #85 JDC Miller Porsche, #40 Acura, #5 Proton Porsche, #01 Cadillac and #63 Lamborghini.
“Periodically, such as following January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona, extended technical inspections are performed by IMSA as due diligence in ensuring technical compliance.
“Race results will remain provisional until these inspections are completed.
“IMSA is committed to providing close and competitive racing for the fans and a fair and even playing field for manufacturers and competitors.”
