Red Flags Out In 4H Mugello After Heavy Incident (Updated)

Schiavoni walks away after front-end hit to the pit exit wall, race extended by 20 minutes

UPDATE (14:25): The race has now restarted after the clean-up, with 1h 25m left on the clock.

The 2024 European Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Mugello has been red-flagged after a big incident on the pit straight involving the Iron Dames and Proton Competition LMGT3 class Porsche 911 LMGT3 Rs with 1h 36m remaining.

Rahel Frey in the Iron Dames 911 – who was sitting third in class at the time – tagged Proton’s Claudio Schiavoni while trying to make a pass after getting a tow on the run down to Turn 1. The Swiss moved left to get alongside Schiavoni too late, tapping his rear bumper, sending him veering off the circuit into the concrete wall on driver’s right.

Thankfully Schiavoni wasn’t collected by any of the cars behind and walked away from the incident after his heavy front-end impact. The hit ripped the front end off his #60 Porsche and created a huge debris field. A large chunk was also taken out of the wall.

Before the race was officially stopped the race was placed under safety car for a fourth time.

Currently, Iron Lynx Proton leads the race overall in LMP2 with its #9 ORECA. Richard Mille by TDS leads Pro/Am, Eurointernational is P1 in LMP3 and the Grid Motorsport by TF Aston Martin holds the top spot in LMGT3.

The estimated restart is 14:20 local time. The clock is still running, though the end of the race has been pushed back 20 minutes to 15:50 local time.
