Four-time FIA WEC LMP2 race winner Gabriel Aubry is set to join Nielsen Racing for the 2024 European Le Mans Series season finale at Portimão later this month.
The Frenchman confirmed the move on social media. It will see him rejoin the ELMS for the first time since the 2022 season, when he competed with Team Virage.
It will also be his first drive since the end of the 2023 FIA WEC season. Initially, Aubry was announced as one of Vector Sport’s drivers for the 2024 ELMS campaign, but was unexpectedly released from the team ahead of the first race. Since then he has spent the season working as part of Eurosport’s FIA WEC French language commentary team while exploring opportunities to return to the cockpit.

For the weekend in Portugal, he will drive in Nielsen’s LMP2 class #27 ORECA 07, racing in the seat which David Heinemeier Hansson was expected to fill. The Dane was also absent from the 4 Hours of Mugello last month due to clashing business commitments. There, the team competed with a two-driver line-up of Will Stevens and Benjamin Pedersen.
“I’m happy to announce I will be racing with Nielsen and alongside an old friend of mine, Will Stevens,” Aubry said.
“I would like to thank everyone in the team who has allowed me to come back into a race seat, in the car I’ve raced the most. It’s time to put my helmet back on.”
The 4 Hours of Portimão is set to take place on October 19th.
