Ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session, DSC found Racing Spirit of Leman’s drivers together in the garage after an eventful and productive FP2 session, Casper Stevenson just out of the car having just posted fastest session time in LMGT3: “The red flag actually didn’t have much to do with me directly, I just stopped to avoid another car.”
Derek Deboer’s first season in ELMS has gone well, the American Bronze driver clearly relishing the challenge:
“The car is in a really good place, the best it’s been. I’m really enjoying this experience, Valentin and Casper have been doing a great job and we are very hopeful for a good performance. The pressure is on me for qualifying but it’s all part of the process, the crew feels nicely balanced and we can take it from there.”
Valentin Hasse Clot set a new LMGT3 course record in the preceding session and was beaming about the #59 Aston Martin’s prospects, “It feels quick, well balanced and is good on the brakes,” said the French Aston Martin Works driver, “Derek is up to a good pace and we should be in the hunt if we stay out of trouble. I really think this race is going to come down to the last 30 minutes, so no crazy stuff until then hopefully. It’s all to play for, really open, and if we get a clean run we should be looking good.”
The 2024 ELMS title is within the grasp of 2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Champions Racing Spirit of Leman – Whatever happens on Saturday be assured there’s another major chapter to come!
