It has been a trying time for supporters of the Lamborghini SC63 after a tumultuous first season for the car in IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
But for what it’s worth, the #63 Lamborghini Iron Lynx SC63 has finished the GTP portion of the IMSA-sanctioned post-season test at Daytona International Speedway with the fastest time across two days.
During the two-hour night test, Session 5, Romain Grosjean set a best lap of 1:35.661 – to not only lead the way in the final session for prototypes, but to surpass the previous benchmark set in Session 3 by the #93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06 of Nick Yelloly. The car did however stop towards the end of the night session with what appeared to be a terminal mechanical issue.
Once again it was the two Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8s in second and third – Robin Frijns in the #25, ahead of Marco Wittmann in the #24.
Filipe Albuquerque was fourth-quickest in the #10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R, followed by defending GTP champion Felipe Nasr in the #7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963.
The #6 Penske Porsche turned the most laps in two hours – 71 – to bring the car’s weekend total to 558 laps.
Familiar faces led the other three classes – in a clean sweep on the day, Malthe Jakobsen led LMP2 in the #04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR ORECA 07, Dennis Olsen led GTD Pro in the #65 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3, and Elliott Skeer led GTD in the #120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Tomorrow’s two sessions will be exclusive to the GTD Pro and GTD classes, starting at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM EST (local time).
