American automotive giant Ford appears to be working towards confirming a new factory sportscar programme with an LMDh prototype.

The ‘Blue Oval’ joining the top class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship and/or the FIA World Endurance Championship would add yet another major OEM to the growing list of marques that have signed up to the current converged ruleset for LMH and LMDh prototypes.
Currently, Acura, Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, Genesis, Porsche and Lamborghini are active LMDh manufacturers, and Aston Martin, Ferrari, Peugeot and Toyota compete with bespoke LMH machinery.
Amongst the four chassis manufacturers, ORECA is fully committed to programmes with Acura, Alpine and Genesis, and Dallara is known to be searching for another client to join BMW and Cadillac, with McLaren believed to be ready to commit to the Italian manufacturer.
Multimatic meanwhile, has just Porsche after the stillborn Audi project based on the same spine was canned, and has close ties to Ford’s motorsport programmes as the constructor and racing service provider of the Mustang GT3 (and previously the Ford GT).
Should Ford and McLaren formally to commit to the ruleset, they would become the 15th and 16th different manufacturers across Hypercar and GTP since the regulations debuted. Other major players, beyond even that total, are believed to be in active evaluation stages too.
