Lamborghini Squadra Corse have confirmed the appointment of Maurizio Leschiutta as its new Head of Motorsport.
Ex Programme lead for the M Hybrid V8 LMDh car at BMW M Motorsport, Leschiutta will report directly to Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer who, as interim Head of Motorsport, led Lamborghini Squadra Corse after the departure of Giorgio Sanna in early 2024.
Leschiutta will oversee all facets of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s racing programmes from 2025 starting with the 24 Hours at Daytona where Lamborghini will race a solo SC63 GTP car as a Squadra Corse entrant for the first time.
Leschiutta’s role will include the continued development of the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh prototype during its second IMSA GTP campaign, plus the GT3 Customer Racing portfolio.
He’ll also be t the helm of the brand’s development of the Huracan’s GT3’s successor, the new Temerario GT3 set to conduct its first outdoor testing programme in the early part of this year, before being officially unveiled to the public at a later date.
Leschiutta will also be responsible for the three continental Lamborghini Super Trofeo one-make championships from 2025.
Prior to his arrival at Lamborghini, Leschiutta has amassed an extensive wealth of experience in the technical and marketing sides of motorsport. He spent 11 years in Formula One, specialising in engine development before moving to GT racing. In recent years, he has been an key figure in the development of BMW’s LMDh programme, where he was the project leader from 2021.
