Flying Lizard Motorsports has announced it will no longer campaign the Nissan Z NISMO GT4 in this year’s Pirelli GT4 America and GT America powered by AWS championships.
This means that all of Nissan/NISMO’s GT4 customer teams in the SRO America paddock last year will no longer run the Z NISMO GT4, and at the moment, the car is only active in the Super Taikyu Series in Japan – where Nissan just scored a 1-2 finish at Motegi last week.
“Due to recent changes within the Nissan organization’s GT4 program, the team has decided they will no longer campaign the #5 Nissan GT4 in the Pirelli GT4 America and GT America powered by AWS series. The team remains appreciative of its ongoing relationship with Nissan/NISMO and is proud of the achievements and results attained throughout the 2024 season,” the team said in a statement issued today.
This comes less than two months after Damir Hot and Rodrigo Baptista were announced as the drivers for the 2025 season and after Programme Manager Darren Law said that the team and NISMO USA would work together to optimise the Z NISMO GT4.
The team adds: “As Flying Lizard continues to assess the future direction of their GT4 programs and their customers, Law is actively evaluating the team’s most competitive options for 2025 and beyond.”
TechSport Racing, which entered two Nissan Z GT4s beginning in 2023, has left GT4 competition but will remain in the SRO America paddock with a new McLaren Trophy effort plus its existing GR Cup programme.
Blackdog Racing changed manufacturer allegiances from Nissan to McLaren after giving the Z NISMO GT4 its first American race win last year.
