The 82nd Goodwood Members Meeting featured GT3 cars on the bill across the past weekend with an extensive static display of cars, a dynamic display of a number of significant models and a competitive single lap ‘shoot-out’ for seven top cars – and big name drivers.
Debuting in 2006, GT3 is about to enter its 20th year. It’s been a raging success, with 58 homologated cars over that period covering 23 different marques, and rather more than that in terms of models and versions of models racing in club, national, regional, continental and now, with IGTC and LMGT3, global competition.
Across the weekend Goodwood greeted some 15 makes and 17 different models of GT3 machine. All bar three of those saw at least some track action.
2013 BTCC Champion Andrew Jordan set fastest time in qualifying for the shoot-out with a 1:14.407 and he repeated the form, but vastly improved the time in the shoot-out proper on Sunday to a 1:13.618 in his ex ADAC GT Masters Callaway Corvette Z06 GT3.
Second fastest was Phil Keen in the ex Tommi Drissi Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, ahead of Andy Priaulx (BMW Z4 GT3), Jake Hill (Ferrari 458 Italia GT3), Andre Lotterer (Porsche 911 GT3R) and Rob Huff (replacing Tom Kristensen in the Audi R8 LMS Ultra). The Reiter Engineering-entered Sareni Chevrolet Camaro GT3 of Frank Stippler did not make the final shootout.
