SRO Motorsports America has published the provisional entry lists for its upcoming weekend races at VIRginia International Raceway, headlined by a 16-car field in GT World Challenge America.
Notably, the two AF Corse USA Ferrari 296 GT3s have returned after missing the Sebring round, while the #2 Racers Edge Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage GT3 will not appear at VIR.
In one of the AF Corse Ferraris, the #16 Blau Motorsport car, Marcelo Hahn will be joined by his son Christian, a race winner in Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil. The younger Hahn replaces Allam Khodair, who has outstanding commitments in the Brazilian Stock Car Pro series this weekend.
Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR driver Eric Powell will step into the #6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3 as Scott Dollahite’s co-driver. Powell won the 2021 TC America series TC class championship and also drove for TechSport Racing in their Nissan GT4 programme.
Random Vandals Racing’s Connor De Phillippi and Kenton Koch lead the Pro class championship by 20 points over JMF Motorsports’ Michai Stephens and Mikaël Grenier; while in Pro-Am, Justin Rothberg and Robby Foley, the defending series champions, carry a ten-point lead over Jeff Burton and Philip Ellis.
Pirelli GT4 America boasts a 29-car field at VIR, where at the front of the Silver class, the championship is heating up – just five points separate Random Vandals’ Koch and Kevin Boehm from RAFA Racing’s Gresham Wagner/Tyler Gonzalez.
Notably, Flying Lizard Motorsports and driver Damir Hot are set to return to GT4 action for the first time since abandoning their Nissan programme before Sonoma, due to safety concerns with the Z NISMO GT4. However, they will be competing separately.
Flying Lizard will enter the #413 BMW M4 GT4 for off-road racing specialists, and father/son duo, Craig and Zach Lumsden. The Lumsdens entered this year’s Dakar Rally and have also competed in the Baja 1000 and Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Hot will be returning in an ACI Motorsports Porsche 718 GT4 RS Clubsport: The Canadian driver will share the #25 Porsche with Carrera Cup North America race winner Ryan Yardley – who is second in that series’ points table, behind his teammate Riley Dickinson.
BMW teams lead all three class championships: BimmerWorld drivers James Walker Jnr and Tyler McQuarrie lead in Pro-Am, while James Clay and Charlie Postins lead the Am standings.
