This year’s PMW Expo, taking place in Cologne from November 12–13, 2025, will feature a trio of in-depth, four-hour workshops designed to deliver high-level technical insight from some of the most experienced minds in motorsport and mobility engineering.
Held over two days, the sessions provide exclusive opportunities for engineers, team members, and technology developers to learn directly from former Red Bull Racing personnel, a veteran race mechanic and vehicle dynamics specialist, and a leading academic in intelligent mobility and tyre science.
Simulation and Transient Handling Analysis in Motorsport

Delivered by Javier Bermejo, former Performance Engineer at Sauber F1 and Vehicle Dynamics Engineer at Red Bull Racing, alongside Alex Burg, former Mechanical Designer in Red Bull Racing’s powertrains department and now Director at Racetrack Dynamics.
This session will bridge theory and practice in modern simulation methods used in elite motorsport. It delves into the simulation state of the art in Formula 1, bridging theory with practical implementation. Each section is carefully designed to maximise insight, provoke thought, and equip attendees with frameworks that can be applied in real-world motorsport environments.
Design of Spring Rates for Race Cars

Led by Ton Serné, a mechanical engineer and long-time vehicle dynamics educator with decades of hands-on experience in motorsport, this workshop will explore the fundamentals of spring rate design.
This focused workshop explores the core principles behind spring rate design in race cars, from motion ratios and coil spring calculations to pre-load, anti-roll bars, and gas spring effects. Geometry, roll centres, and pitch axes are examined to define the roll and pitch arms before moving into practical design targets, frequency analysis, and example calculations.
This is a hands-on, highly applicable session designed to deliver insight that can be implemented immediately after.
Tyre Modelling and Simulation for Performance Prediction and Optimisation

Presented by Professor George Mavros of Loughborough University, a leading figure in tyre-road interaction research, this session will focus on the predictive modelling of tyre behaviour.
This workshop explores the fundamentals of tyre modelling with direct application to motorsport performance. Key topics include thermal modelling, friction, and load prediction using the brush model, all grounded in two decades of research and motorsport consultancy.
Attendees will gain practical insights into modelling fidelity, road surface interaction, parameter identification, and the application of advanced tools like the Magic Formula and machine learning techniques.
