DTM Nürburgring: Weekend News Notebook

New Porsche debuts

DTM fans at the Nurburgring were amongst the first to see Porsche’s 2026 spec. 911 Cup and 911 GT3R ‘in the metal’ (and carbon!) as the two new cars went on display in the paddock over the past weekend.

‘Ring Racer’ Roller Coaster Dismantled

German media reports have confirmed that the ill-starred ‘Ring Racer’ roller coaster has been partially dismantled.

The Ring Racer, a major attraction for the 2009 development at the Nürburgring that led later to major financial issues and legal action, only briefly operated after an early technical failure led to several years out of use. Its brief period of operation simply underlined the reality that the business plan underpinning the development was built on essentially fictional visitor numbers.

Champions crowned in Prototype Cup Germany

Danny Soufi and Pavel Lefterov scored a unday race win at the Nurburgring to secure the 2025 Prototype Cup Germany title.

The US/Bulgarian duo took a fifth and sixth win of the season over the weekend in their Konrad Motorsport-run Ligier to put the title chase out of reach with a double-header at the red Bull Ring still to come.

“I am happy and also relieved to have done it here, after yesterday’s victory had brought us so close,” said a beaming Soufi, who has been racing in the Prototype Cup Germany since the German LMP3 series was launched in 2022.

Lefterov was also delighted: “It is obviously special to be crowned champion in my first season in the LMP3 class. The team always provided us with a great car and Danny was the perfect team-mate for me. He is fast and we also get along very well as people.”

Second place in the race at the Nürburgring went to the best Juniors, Riccardo Leone Cirelli and Mattias Bjerre Jakobsen, ahead of Mattis Pluschkell and Maksymilian Angelard, all four from BWT Mücke Motorsport.

In the Trophy competition, Thomas Ambiel took revenge for a Saturday defeat to Michael Herich with a Sunday class win that sees the Rinaldi driver confirmed as Trophy class Champion too.
