Ford Performance has written a new chapter in Nürburgring folklore with the all-electric Transit SuperVan 4.2 (pictured above at Goodwood) setting a lap time of 6:48.393 around the Nordschleife in the hands of Romain Dumas. The run makes it the ninth-fastest vehicle ever to record a timed lap at the circuit.
The 2,000-horsepower demonstrator, already a record-setter at Bathurst and a winner at Pikes Peak, now sits ahead of cars such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X in the all-time list.
Developed as part of Ford Performance’s electric vehicle programme, the SuperVan 4.2 serves as a test bed for future race and road car technologies.
The achievement also pays tribute to the late Sabine Schmitz, whose famous Top Gear challenge with Jeremy Clarkson helped cement the Transit’s unlikely connection to the ‘Green Hell.’
