24-year-old British racer Alex Quinn has been handed a contract extension by Algarve Pro Racing for the 2026 season.
The Cornwall native, who stood out in last weekend’s ELMS 4 Hours of Silverstone towards the end of the race on used wet tyres in the heavy downpour, will continue racing with the multi-title winning LMP2 outfit based in Portugal next season in both the ELMS and the Asian Le Mans Series over the coming winter.
“It will be great for my progression to continue racing with Algarve Pro next year,” Quinn confirmed to DSC. “I’m in a really good place career-wise at the moment. Last year was really positive, but this year I have built momentum.
“I feel so lucky to be in the position I am in. I could have very easily ended up sitting at home watching these races, but after my great season in IMSA in 2023 with Ben Keating and getting upgraded to Gold, Stewart (Cox, co-owner of Algarve Pro Racing), a week later, backed me and offered me the seat in the ELMS.
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be. This is such an amazing team, with so many good engineers. It feels like a family, so I’m thrilled that I will be back next year, with a full race and testing programme.”
This season, Quinn has been competing in the ELMS LMP2 Pro/Am category alongside Bronze-rated Greek driver Kriton Lentoudis and fellow Englishman Olli Caldwell.
The trio lead the championship standings heading into next month’s season finale at Portimão after back-to-back Pro/Am class wins at Spa and Silverstone.
And Quinn, who was a key part of the #20 car’s run to second in the Pro/Am standings last year, has consistently proven to be one of a number of rising stars in the ELMS’ field during the current campaign.
“Last weekend’s performance at Silverstone, on old tyres in the driving rain, was world class; it underlined what we all feel about Alex and his progression this season behind the wheel of a prototype,” Bob Berridge, owner of Algarve Pro Racing partner organisation BBM Sport, told DSC.
“So we didn’t hesitate to put a contract in front of him for next season. He deserves backing, and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Quinn believes this extension for 2026 with Algarve Pro Racing is another milestone on what he hopes will be a journey to the Hypercar ranks in the future.
“There are a few other things brewing for me that are not confirmed yet, things potentially in a higher category,” Quinn teased. “It’s nice to be leading the championship, it’s nice to have won races, it all just feels like it’s falling into place at the right time.”
