Toyota has teased an updated version of its GR010-Hybrid Hypercar, which is set to debut in next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship, on social media this morning.
The Japanese marque has endured a difficult 2025 campaign, and with only November’s 8 Hours of Bahrain remaining, it faces the possibility of its first-ever podium-less campaign.
As the oldest Hypercar in the field, the future of the GR010-Hybrid has faced considerable speculation in recent months, as Toyota continues to work towards competing in the forthcoming FIA WEC category for hydrogen-powered prototypes, which is expected to be introduced before the end of the decade.
The images released today show multiple visual changes to the GR010-Hybrid, including a new rear wing, front bodywork and headlight design. Toyota has not yet gone into detail over the full extent of the GR010-Hybrid’s overhaul, though it did disclose key information to Japanese media during last weekend’s FIA WEC 6 Hours of Fuji event.
“We’re actively working to introduce a new package for next year,” said Toyota Gazoo Racing vice chairman Kazuki Nakajima.
“We plan to start testing the evolved car with this new aerodynamic package in early October.”
Kamui Kobayashi, who acts as a driver and team principal, added: “We need to clear the problems we’ve been having and build a car that’s crazy fast, and then have it adjusted by the Balance of Performance.”
Toyota has multiple tests and wind tunnel runs planned between now and the end of the year as it seeks to return to the sharp end of the field in 2026.
The five-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner is not alone in developing EVO joker updates for its Hypercar next season, with BMW having already unveiled its updated M Hybrid V8 and further manufacturers, including Alpine and Cadillac, set to follow suit in the coming months.
